The major political parties in Telford & Wrekin have issued the following joint statement on the Donnington by-election:
We believe the by-elections for Donnington, scheduled to be held on 2 April, should be postponed for an interim period. The absolute priority for our emergency personnel, Council staff, candidates and residents should be focusing on the unprecedented circumstances caused by Covid- 19 alongside their health and safety.

Local campaigner Robbie Kneale has been selected by the Liberal Democrats to stand as their candidate in the Donnington by-election on 2nd April.
Local family man and Donnington resident Robbie Kneale will stand for the vacant councillor position in Donnington following the sad passing of Cllr Liz Clare.

Newport councillor Thomas Janke has called for police response officers to be based at Newport Fire Station, in the absence of a police station.
Welcoming Telford & Wrekin police chief Supt Jim Baker's commitment to the police role in keeping Newport a "vibrant, active and thriving market town", Cllr Janke made the plea to bring back a base for response officers in Newport.

A Woodside town councillor has launched a petition today calling for the bulky waste collection charge, set by Telford & Wrekin Council, to be scrapped for residents to help address a fly-tipping "epidemic".
Figures revealed today show that Woodside was the borough's fly-tipping hot spot in 2019 with 689 incidents reported. This is 43 times higher (per resident) than other areas, such as Apley Castle.

Telford & Wrekin Liberal Democrats were pleased to see the party's share of the vote treble in both Telford and the Wrekin constituencies in this year's general election.
Thomas Janke in The Wrekin received 4,067 (8.3%) votes up 5.6% on 2017 and Shana Roberts, in what was an ultra Conservative-Labour marginal, received 2,657 (6.2%) votes up 4.1% on 2017.

Telford Liberal Democrats have accused the Conservatives of failing to protect local small businesses, after figures revealed that 1,610 businesses in the area have closed over the last three years.
It comes as the Liberal Democrats today (Saturday 7 December) unveil a series of measures to reverse this decline and boost local firms, to mark Small Business Saturday.

The Liberal Democrats have today announced plans to fund at least 60 new police officers across Telford and Wrekin as part of an extra £1bn nationwide investment into community policing.
This commitment amounts to 20,000 more police officers across England and Wales, enough for an extra two officers per ward. The Liberal Democrats will also fund an immediate 2% pay-rise for serving police officers.

The Liberal Democrats announce today that they would allow Telford & Wrekin Council to increase council tax by up to 500% on empty homes that are left empty long-term.
The latest Government statistics show that there were 390 homes left empty long-term in Telford and Wrekin in 2018.
In response, and as part of its plan to alleviate the housing crisis, the Liberal Democrats would legislate to allow Telford and Wrekin Council to increase council tax by up to 500% where properties are being left vacant long-term. The revenues would then be reinvested to build new homes for the community or to invest in local services.

Thursday night saw us hold or AGM and election rally.
A fantastic evening was had! The highlights included: a motivational speech and Q and A from Matthew Green (Lib Dem MP for Ludlow 2001-2005).Matthew spelt out the importance to vote Lib Dem and how volatile this election will be. Also, a lively Q and A from our candidates Shana Roberts and Thomas Janke too. It was fantastic to see so many new members and it showed how the party was going from strength to strength.
