The Liberal Democrats have selected local campaigner Milan Thakur as their candidate in the Newport Town Council by-election.

Milan Thakur is a local resident who is committed to improving Newport.

Milan shops in the town, uses its roads, and sends his daughter to a local school, giving him first-hand experience of the town's issues.

He has recently joined the local Lib Dem Focus team with the goal of making a positive impact.  Milan’s priorities include addressing parking, the library and community policing. Above all, Milan will listen to you and act on your concerns.

"I love Newport but I think it can be an even better place to live. That’s why I’m standing for Newport Town Council," highlighted Milan.

Milan's priorities for Newport:

Addressing school parking

Milan backs the Focus Team’s drive to get more crossings installed to make walking and cycling to school safer, and supports parking restrictions near schools where residents’ access is being blocked.

Enhancing the library

Milan supports the Town Council’s recent actions to save our library. He wants to build upon this success, basing more services at the library, and helping this precious local resource thrive.

Community policing

The Town Council’s work to get a permanent police base in Newport will have Milan’s full support. Milan believes local police patrols should be based in Newport, not out of a police station miles away.
