Lib Dem councillors have expressed their thanks to all of the residents who objected to the proposed toilet roll factory near the Shawbirch roundabout. Telford & Wrekin Council requested Homes England withdraw their application following more than 1,000 objections from residents, and representations made by councillors Bill Tomlinson, Karen Blundell and Karen Tomlinson. The planning application was subsequently withdrawn.

Bill Tomlinson said: "I want to especially thank those residents who produced and delivered flyers that followed my newsletter, you know who you are". This site has been designated employment land since 1991, but this scale of development, incorporating a polluting toilet roll factory, would have resulted in a detrimental impact on thousands of residents and the local environment. Once again this illustrates what can be achieved by working together as a community.

An action group has been formed to protect the Shawbirch East site from inappropriate development and to explore the possibilities of keeping it green. If you want to be involved please contact Bill or the Facebook group 'Keep Shawbirch Green' for details.
